The Railwayman and Other Stories
Tales from the Isle of Wight railway
This project focuses on tales from the tracks of the Isle of Wight Railway during the 1970s and 1980s. The (true) stories were written by my dad, who worked there in various roles for many years. I grew up hearing these funny, heartwarming and sometimes slightly shocking stories and asked him to write them down. The result was a very special book just for me, completed 6 years before his death in 2021.
The Railwayman and Other Stories is a retelling of my dad's memories set to music composed and performed specifically for each of the stories.
With heartfelt thanks to Arts Council England for their DYCP grant, Jonathan Hill Luthier for my unique stringed instrument created in 2024, the violin d'amore, and to my family for reading the stories.
Live performances
The project's first live performances will be on 25th and 26th July at the Ventnor Fringe arts festival on the Isle of Wight.You can purchase tickets online.
